The Parish Oven
If you ever find yourself in the heart of Worksop and you’re craving hearty British comfort food served with a warm village charm, The Parish Oven is one of those hidden gems that locals quietly rave about and visitors love stumbling upon. Nestled on Worksop Road, just outside the center in S80 3JU, this cozy spot brings together rustic tradition and a surprisingly diverse menu that caters to everyone from Sunday roast lovers to afternoon tea fans.
One of the standout aspects of The Parish Oven is its atmosphere-casual, friendly, and refreshingly unpretentious. The staff treat you like you’ve been there a dozen times, even if it’s your first visit. Whether you’re popping in solo for a quick bite or coming with the whole family for a relaxed weekend lunch, you’ll feel welcomed right away. And if accessibility is something you’re concerned about, they’ve thought of that too-wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance, seating, and toilets are all in place.
Now let’s talk food. The menu here is packed with comfort classics and creative seasonal surprises. For starters, the Chicken Pot Pie and Hunter’s Chicken are both proper favourites. Tender chicken, rich gravy, and flaky pastry? It’s the kind of meal you’ll want to linger over. If you’re a meat lover, the Sirloin Steak served with Bearnaise Sauce is a satisfying main-juicy, flavorful, and always cooked the way you ask. And for those who fancy a traditional roast, the Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding or the Roast Pork are Sunday essentials done right.
Vegetarian or vegan? You won’t be left out. The Parish Oven caters to a variety of dietary preferences, offering healthy options, vegan dishes, and smaller plates if you're not in the mood for a full meal. Their Moussaka and Chunky Fish Finger Sandwich with Trimmings are surprisingly popular even among meat-eaters.
Of course, no visit would be complete without something sweet. Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard might just be the most beloved dessert here-it’s rich, gooey, and everything you’d hope for in a British classic. But don’t sleep on the Cherry Cheesecake or the indulgent Brownie either. Pair that with a fresh brew-the restaurant is known for its great coffee and impressive tea selection-and you've got yourself a perfect ending.
Afternoon tea lovers should keep an eye out for their special events, like the Mama Mia Themed Afternoon Tea or the New Easter Afternoon Tea. These aren't your average finger-sandwich affairs-they're festive, fun, and a great reason to gather with friends or family.
Drinks-wise, The Parish Oven holds its own. The beer selection is solid-Guinness Draught and Pint of Birra Moretti are regular crowd-pleasers-and the wine and cocktail lists are just as satisfying. It’s a spot where you can grab a pint or a glass of red with your meal and just relax.
And that’s exactly the kind of place The Parish Oven is-relaxing, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable. It’s especially popular for lunch and dinner, and you’ll often see locals dropping in for solo dining or casual meetups. The lack of delivery or takeaway might be a downside for some, but honestly, the dine-in experience is part of the charm. With outdoor seating available too, it's a lovely option on sunny days in the English countryside.
If you’re someone who appreciates traditional British fare with a little twist, a welcoming vibe, and a spot where quality is always a priority, The Parish Oven should definitely be on your radar. Whether it’s a classic Steak Pie, a fresh brew over Fish and Chips, or just a quiet meal and a pint, this place makes good food feel easy and accessible-just the way it should be.

This pub is totally amazing. The atmosphere is perfect for a quiet dinner and the food is absolutely fantastic. I had pasta with seafood and from my proper Italian point of view it was the best pasta I have ever had here in UK!! Staff is amazing .. we have been served by Jack and he made sure that our dinner experience was smooth and lovely. The pudding was also delicious, I had chocolate brownie and it was warm and soft. Definitely we will come back!!
Went here on a Wednesday, ordered the parish burger was incredibly tasty just too greasy but enjoyable! Boyfriend ordered the steak and Stilton pie he enjoyed it just a bit salty, overall with a drink each came to £44 bit overpriced for what you get, but still enjoyable 7/10 overall.
Me and family nipped in today during a bike ride. As it was a very busy Sunday, you are supposed to book. Despite this, staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and allowed us to order some of their chunky chips. Powered our 10 year old up for the 7 miles home. Much appreciated. Had a lovely lunch and what a great pub. Cheers.
prebooked a table for high tea 2pm on saturday. the place was quite empty probable due to bad weather. the high tea includes 5 savours (tomato soup, mini fish and chips, mini chicken in BBQ sauce burger, prawn cocktail and alcoholic drink)and 5 sweets (chocolate brownie, cheese cake, tiramisu, scone, pineapple fritter). the high tea was ok. the hunter chicken salad and chip was delicious. The ice cold latte was served in large jar. arrived 1pm on friday, the pub was relatively quiet. the prices of main meals may find a bit dear for some people. we ordered belly pork, moussaka and slow cooked beef. all of them were delicious. they were kindly changed the ice cream to custard for sticky toffee pudding for me. the dessert was good and not over sweeted.
Beautiful meal on Friday evening. I had the herb crusted cod, the freshest fish I've ever had (and I love my fish) and it was a lovely thick piece cooked to perfection. It was served with asparagus and a variety of fresh vegetables also cooked expertly. The butter sauce was divine! My husband had the lamb curry which had a lot of good sized chunks of lamb in it and again was perfect. Not our first visit, had many tasty meals here, it just gets better and better. Highly, highly recommend this exquisite charming country pub with impressive decor and food to match!
